Even though hair is soft, it bends as you shave, pressing against the blade at odd angles. This stress can cause tiny cracks in the steel leaving the blade with microscopic imperfections. Once a small chip forms, it weakens the edge, and more chips quickly appear.
The result? The blade loses its sharpness, not because the hair is hard, but because the edge itself gets damaged.

Key factor 2
Another contributing factor is clogging, which occurs when tiny particles stick to the blade that builds up after each shave, making the blade feel dull even when it isn’t.

The Solution
